A 42-year-old man was shot and killed Monday evening in Moclips.
The Grays Harbor Sheriff’s Office is leading the investigation as they seek to identify and detain the shooter, said Undersheriff Kevin Schrader. The victim’s name has not been released.
The initial call came in as a shooting at 7:25 p.m. Monday evening, Schrader said, when the dead man’s girlfriend called 911.
“She performed CPR until officers could get on scene,” Schrader said. “We saw a subject down on the ground. We took over CPR for a brief moment. Fire District 8 was called to the scene. Shortly after that, he was pronounced dead.”
The police have not yet released the identity of a suspect, who fled the scene in an unknown vehicle after the shooting, Schrader said. Personnel from the sheriff’s officer were canvassing the area and stopping local drivers to seek additional information on Tuesday morning.
“We have, through witness interviews, been able to identify witnesses and a person of interest,” Schrader said. “Today we’re following up with a couple additional search warrants related to the incident.”
The sheriff’s office believe the shooting was personally motivated, and the shooter is unlikely to be a hazard to the general public, Schrader said.
“We think that the shooter knew the victim,” Schrader said.
