A man carrying an ax in the proximity of the Oakville School District prompted a school lockdown Monday before he was taken into protective custody, according to a report from Grays Harbor Sheriff’s Office Chief Criminal Deputy Brad Johansson.
The 30-year-old Oregon resident was reportedly yelling and carrying the ax around 10 a.m., but did not make any direct threats “and appeared to be having mental health issues,” said Johansson. He was taken into protective custody and transported for a mental health evaluation. The school was taken out of lockdown shortly after 12:30 p.m.
The man was in the area visiting family, said Johansson. The Oakville Tribal Police also responded to the call.
