The body of Grayland resident Michelle Schlegel, 49, was found in a ravine on Eagle Hill southeast of Jacobson’s Jetty early Saturday evening, Aug. 20. Her vehicle was also nearby in the ravine.
Last seen in the South Beach area on Aug. 11, family members notified the Grays Harbor County Sheriff’s Office that she was missing and first spread the alarm via social media on Aug. 17.
The cause of her death is currently under investigation.
After learning Schlegal had been found, the family expressed its thanks via social media to community members who searched, posted and rallied around her parents, North Cove residents Sam and Barb Schlegel, and her brother, Brian, and sister-in-law, Jen, noting that the support during the time she was missing was very much appreciated.
A celebration of Michelle Schlegel’s life will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 27, at the Ocosta Rec Hall. Family members say that Michelle would want this to be a happy time with favorite memories and stories shared in her honor. If you have something purple, her favorite color, you are encouraged to wear it.
Michelle was a volunteer firefighter for the North Cove Fire Department, an EMT and a homecare giver.
If you are unable to attend, the family suggests a donation in Michelle’s name to Pacific County Fire District No. 5, P.O. Box 602, Tokeland, WA 98590.
