More than 25,000 COVID-19 vaccine doses have been given in Grays Harbor County

Two first-dose clinics planned for mass vaccination site this week

More than 25,500 total doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been delivered in Grays Harbor County as of Wednesday, according to the state Department of Health.

The total was 25,503, and didn’t include the mass vaccination clinics scheduled this week for Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Two more first-dose clinics are planned for next week, said county COVID-19 response public information officer Maranatha Hay Friday

“We are planning to hold two mass vaccination clinics next week for two days, Thursday and Friday,” said Hay. “We will be opening the clinics up to Phase 1B Tier 2 and they are both first-dose clinics. The links to schedule appointments will be available on Grays Harbor Public Health’s website on Monday.”

According to Department of Health data, as of Wednesday, of the county’s population of about 75,000, 19.31% had received a first dose vaccination and just over 12% has had both doses and are fully vaccinated.

Case counts

Between Thursday, March 4, and Wednesday, March 10, three new COVID-related deaths were reported in Grays Harbor County, bumping the total to 52. That’s a rate of 1.5% deaths per total cases. For comparison, in adjoining counties, the death rate per total case in Jefferson County is 0.6%, Mason and Thurston counties 1.1%, and Lewis and Pacific counties 1.3%.

During the week of March 4-10, 37 new cases of COVID-19 were reported in Grays Harbor County. The county’s total cases for the pandemic grew from 3,390 to 3,427 March 4-9, but the total posted Wednesday was 3,424. Grays Harbor Public Health explained, “You may notice some decreased case numbers in today’s update. The Washington State Department of Health is routinely working to ensure counts are correct and sometimes corrections are necessary within the database.”

Also during that week, there were five new hospitalizations reported in the county, the total for the pandemic Wednesday was at 169. Also notable, Wednesday’s report had no new cases, no new deaths, and no new hospitalizations.

Pacific County

In Pacific County, the case count has risen significantly since Feb. 24, when the pandemic total was 741. Over the next two weeks, 59 new cases were reported in the county, bringing the total to 800. Wednesday there were 30 active cases in Pacific County, down from 35 Monday. The death total stood at 10, and the rate of cases per 100,000 population over a two week span had risen from 60.1 Feb. 24 to 249.5 March 10.

As of March 6, 10,298 total doses of COVID-19 vaccine had been given in the county. More than a quarter of the county’s population had received one dose, and just under 14% were full vaccinated.
