The National Weather Service is warning of strong winds along the Washington coast Friday morning.
The next storm system will impact the region as winds will begin to ramp up area-wide around midnight, peak between 4 a.m. to 9 a.m., then ramp down by mid-day.
The area of the peak winds will generally move from the northwest to southeast during this time frame. The wind direction will be from the southwest.
The strongest winds are expected along the coast and northern slopes of the Olympics
Peak wind gusts in the areas noted above are likely to peak in the 40-50 mph range, perhaps lasting one to two hours at any given location. Wind gusts as high as 50-60 mph cannot be ruled out in these areas. Conversely, the low-end estimates still range from 30-40 mph.
Peak gusts across the remainder of the area will generally range from 30-40 mph. Wind Gusts as high as 40-50 mph cannot be ruled out in these areas. Conversely, low-end estimates in these areas are still in the 25-35 mph range.
The early-season nature of the storm means that leaves are still on the trees, therefore trees may be more susceptible to damage, especially when combined with rainfall, which could lead to widespread power outages.
