Work toward a new Cosmopolis municipal building could begin soon.
The Cosi City Council will have a special meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday to discuss a contract with Harbor Architects, 345 W. Wishkah St. in Aberdeen, to being working on the building. The city received a total of five quotes from architects interested in working on the project.
“The meeting is to approve contracts for architect and engineering services,” City Administrator Darrin Raines said. “We went through the review process in January, and we have now selected Harbor Architects.”
A negotiated contract between the city and Harbor Architects will be presented to the council for consideration at Wednesday’s meeting.
“If it is approved Wednesday, then the architect probably would start work within the next week,” Raines said. That would could include geotechnical and site surveys of the property. “Once that information is all gathered, we will proceed into the full details of the main design of the project.”
The contract states that Laundau Associates of Tumwater will be the geotechnical engineering contractor. Berglund Schmidt and Associates Inc. of Hoquiam would do the surveying work.
Other engineering consultants listed in the contract include PCS Structural Solutions of Tacoma (structural engineering), FSI Engineers of Seattle (mechanical engineering), TFWB Engineers of Seattle (electrical engineering) and Vector Engineering of Tumwater (civil engineering).
In November, more than 60 percent of voters (382 votes for to 253 against) approved a $3 million bond measure for a new City Hall, police station and courtroom. The bonds will be paid off over the next 20 years.
