Grays Harbor Conservation District hosts beach cleanup
The Grays Harbor Conservation District announced a collaborative event between Grays Harbor Stream Team, Grays Harbor Conservation District and the Grays Harbor National Wildlife Refuge to prepare the wildlife refuge for the upcoming shorebird arrival.
This event is Saturday, April 5 from noon to 2 p.m. This is a wonderful opportunity to make a difference in your local environment and help maintain this beautiful wildlife refuge.
The cleanup is at Grays Harbor Wildlife Refuge, 100 Airport Way, Hoquiam.
These events are open to all volunteers, so bring your friends, family and community members. Whether you’re a seasoned volunteer or new to environmental efforts, there’s a spot for you.
They’ll provide all the necessary equipment, just bring a good pair of mud boots.
Ocean Shores Green Waste Collection Center opens April 5
Beginning on April 5, 2025 and running through Sept. 27, 2025 the city of Ocean Shores is opening the Green Waste Collection Center for Ocean Shores residents on Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Bring proof of residency, such as your driver’s license or a utility bill.
The center is located at 149 Canal Dr. SE. Acceptable waste includes yard waste, canal weeds and brush clippings under eight inches. Unacceptable waste includes manufactured wood products, pressure treated wood products and noxious weeds. Drop off is not intended for construction or commercial use.
Chehalis Tribe’s Financial Freedom Fair set for Great Wolf Lodge
The 2025 Financial Freedom Fair will take place from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 5.
It will be held at the Great Wolf Lodge, located at 20500 Old Highway 99 SW.
It’s free to attend, and everyone is welcome.
Hosted by the Chehalis Tribe, the Financial Freedom Fair will include resource tables with professionals from various industries, presentations covering financial topics, personalized support, cooking lessons and prize drawings at certain booths.
Session topics include homeownership, credit management, spending and saving, banking and investing and business ownership.
Topics exclusively for Chehalis Tribe members include minor’s and vulnerable adult’s trust, general welfare exclusion and disbursements.
Food and drinks will be provided by Great Wolf Lodge, and a Kid’s Corner will be set up for children to play while the adults learn.

Highway 101 down to one lane in Kalaloch
Erosion near Kalaloch Campground has caused a temporary lane closure on U.S. Highway 101.
Drivers can expect alternating single-lane traffic at milepost 158, according to a press release from the state Department of Transportation.
Geotechnical engineers will assess the erosion to determine the next steps, WSDOT said.
