No new nightly rental approvals as county develops guidelines

Property owners required to get a conditional use permit for short-term rentals.

The Grays Harbor county commissioners approved a 90-day moratorium on granting conditional-use permits for nightly rentals. The moratorium began Tuesday.

Conditional-use permits are required for homeowners in certain zoning regions who want to rent their property for short terms using services like Airbnb.com. This moratorium only applies in unincorporated regions of the county.

“I think this will give time for staff and the citizens to provide input for this on the county’s review of possible adoptions of regulations that could affect this,” Commissioner Randy Ross said.

This moratorium will give county officials time to develop rules for nightly rentals in unincorporated areas of the county.
