A strong earthquake that struck Thursday morning in Northern California has triggered a tsunami warning for parts of the California and Oregon coasts, but there are no current warnings for Washington, according to the state’s Emergency Management Division.

The potential tsunami danger for other areas besides California and Oregon is being evaluated, the Washington Emergency Management Division posted on X at 11:09 a.m.
The quake struck at 10:44 a.m. west of Ferndale, a small city in coastal Humboldt County near the Oregon border, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
At least 5.3 million people in California were under a tsunami warning after the magnitude 7.0 earthquake, the U.S. Geological Survey said in a yellow alert, which predicts localized but minimal damage. More than 1.3 million people lived close enough to the quake that they could have felt it, the USGS estimated.
