As Memorial Day Weekend begins to ramp up, most businesses are prepping for what they hope is a busy weekend to rake in profits.
However, for one business in the East County region of Grays Harbor, it is using the opportunity of the bustling holiday weekend to raise funds and promote awareness for a dedicated cause: the disappearance of Oakley Carlson.
On Sunday, Shujacks Bar & Grill will be hosting an all-day fundraiser for Oakley Carson’s Reward Fund. According to the businesses post on Facebook, 20 percent of all food and beverage sales will go toward the fund, which is currently sitting at $22,200 as of May 24. This is one of the multiple fundraiser and awareness events that have planned throughout the year.
Jordan Wolfe, who is one of the prominent organizers on the Oakley Carlson group page on Facebook, used her personal Facebook page to encourage people to attend the event in collaboration with the restuarant.
“Our community has come together to fundraise for her reward fund and the ShuCrew will donating 20 percent of proceeds from Sunday to this fund,” Shujacks Bar & Grill said via Facebook. “Please come dine in, drink, and/or take some food to go to help us raise some funds.”
The Oakley Carlson case is not unfamiliar to the community of East County. These fundraising events come on the heels of Jordan Bowers, Oakley’s biological mother, being sentenced to 20 months in prison for two felony charges of child endangerment on April 23. As of now, no charges against the biological parents, Bowers and Andrew Carlson, have anything to do with 5-year-old Oakley who was reported missing on Dec. 6, 2021.
The event will run from 9 a.m. to midnight Sunday at 326 West Main St., in Elma. For more information about future Oakley Carlson events, people are inclined to check Wolfe’s Facebook page and the Oakley Carlson public group page on Facebook. People are also encouraged to call Crimestoppers at (800) 222-8477 if they have any information that relates to the case.
