Oakville School evacuated due to bomb threat

The Oakville School was evacuated Monday afternoon after a person called the school district and claimed a bomb had been planted inside the school.

The call came in at about 2 p.m., according to Grays Harbor County Sheriff’s Office chief criminal deputy Brad Johansson.

“The school was closed and the children are being evacuated,” said Johansson in a statement released about 3 p.m. Monday. “Parents have been given information how to reunite with their children.”

Washington State Patrol bomb-detection dogs and bomb squad technicians are responding to the scene, said Johansson. The Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident.

The State Department of Transportation announced at 2:58 p.m. that “police activity is causing traffic backups and delays on US 12 both directions at milepost 34.98 near Park Street beginning at 2:48 p.m. until further notice. The roadway is closed. A detour route is in place.”
