The Grays Harbor County man who tested positive for COVID-19 was transported by the Ocean Shores Fire Department, according to a statement from Fire Chief Mike Thuirer.
“The Ocean Shores Fire Department crew responded to the county to contact the patient,” and no other demographic information would be released because of HIPAA laws, read the statement.
Grays Harbor Public Health officials announced the positive test March 11, saying only that the patient was a man in his 60s who did not travel outside the United States before becoming ill.
Thuirer said the crew involved took all available and necessary precautions while in contact with the patient and after returning “took all decontamination measures set forth by Grays Harbor County EMS protocol.”
“Per the Washington State Department of Health, our members were not considered an exposure risk to the virus, and none of them have shown any signs or symptoms associated with COVID-19,” read the statement.
Like other fire departments across the county and nation, Ocean Shores is taking precautions to “maintain the fire department’s readiness and health,” according to the statement. To ensure emergency services continue, the department has suspended station tours and visits, ride-alongs or students, and is not currently accepting donations.
