One arrested after car stolen from Elma, pursuit

The owner of the vehicle’s foot was run over

A woman was arrested Sunday after a pursuit of a vehicle stolen in Elma ended in Central Park.

Sunday Peaches Vaughn is currently detained in county jail on charges of 2nd-degree assault, driving under the influence, felony attempted eluding pursuit of a police vehicle, and third-degree driving with license suspended, according to the county website.

The pursuit began Sunday morning, said Elma Police Chief Susan Shultz.

‘Sunday at about 10 after 9 in the morning, officers were advised of a vehicle theft that occurred from the 600 block of Main Street,” Shultz said. “A known subject to the vehicle owner stole the car. In stealing the car, the suspect ran over the owner’s foot.”

The vehicle was a white Mercedes automobile, Shultz said. The chase attained speeds of up to 106 miles per hour, Shultz said.

“A Montesano police officer located the vehicle westbound on SR12. They attempted to stop the vehicle but it accelerated,” Shultz said. “Montesano police officers were able to stop the suspect and take her into custody.”

Vaughn stopped the car around York Drive, Shultz said. Troopers from the Washington State Patrol investigated the driving under the influence aspects of the case, while Vaughn was detained. The Aberdeen and Montesano police departments also assisted in the pursuit, Shultz said.
