One injured in shooting; sheriff’s office investigating

The altercation grew from a previous dispute, police believe

On Thursday afternoon, police from multiple departments responded to multiple calls about a shooting near Sterling’s Landing, off Devonshire Road near Montesano.

A 40-year-old man was injured in the shooting; he was driven by friends to Summit Pacific Medical Center before being medevac’d to Harborview Medical Center for advanced care, according to a social media post by the Grays Harbor Sheriff’s Office.

“Everyone involved has been identified. We’re still investigating,” said Chief of Special Services Paul Logan in a phone interview. “We’re investigating now to get all the facts. We’ll submit it to the prosecutor and they’ll decide what charges will be filed, if any.”

About 10 people, all local, were around when the shooting occurred, Logan said. Officers from the sheriff’s office, Montesano, Aberdeen, Hoquiam and the Washington State Patrol responded rapidly to secure the scene, Logan said.

“It was a great team effort when something like that comes and everyone comes running until everything calmed down and everyone can get interviewed,” Logan said.

The victim is in stable condition at Harborview as of Friday morning, Logan said. The firearm, a handgun, was recovered at the scene and the investigation is ongoing, according to the social media post. There is no ongoing threat to the public, Logan said.
