One wounded, one arrested in Hoquiam stabbing

The victim and suspect were family members, police say

A Tuesday evening call about a protective order violation in Hoquiam escalated after a man repeatedly stabbed a family member on the 100 block of Beacon Hill Drive.

A 26-year-old Hoquiam resident, whose name has not yet been released, was arrested that evening for first-degree assault and violation of a domestic violence no contact order, while a 53-year-old man was medevaced to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle for his internal injuries, said Lt. Brian Dayton of the Hoquiam Police Department.

“Officers were enroute when they learned that someone had been stabbed,” Dayton said in an interview. “Upon arrival, suspect and the victim were on the ground. The suspect was taken into custody.”

The victim had been stabbed repeatedly with a pocketknife, Dayton said.

“The suspect is well-known to us, usually dealing with his mental health,” Dayton said.

The suspect is being medically cleared for detainment, Dayton said, and will likely be transferred to county jail as the legal process works forward on Wednesday afternoon.
