Candy Palmer, one of the first female members of the Aberdeen Lions, received the Melvin Jones Fellowship Award this month.
Club President Steve Fowler presented the award at the club’s 78th Annual Charter Party.
Palmer joined the Aberdeen Lions Club in August 2001 and has served in many positions including vice president, president and board member for many years. In addition, she participates in many of our projects including the Toast the Harbor Silent Auction, the Salvation Army Food Bank and she decorates Lions facilities for holidays and special occasions like Charter Night.
The fellowship was established in 1973 and is named after Lions Clubs International founder Melvin Jones.
The Aberdeen Lions Club honors long-term members who have demonstrated a commitment to Lions Club ideals and projects over the years by nominating them for the fellowship.
Melvin Jones Fellows from Aberdeen have included Harold Warren, Bob Preble, Gene Schermer, Ray Hodge, Bob Neisinger, Jene’e Bearden, Michael O’Connor, Dr. Jim Weyrich, Allen Waters, John Tieder, Judge Steven Brown, Dr. Scott Berken and Erv Granahan.
