Part 1 of “American Pickers” stop on Harbor to air Monday, Sept. 9

When the crew from the TV show “American Pickers” was in Grays Harbor County in late April, it created quite a buzz around the Harbor, especially among local fans of the show.

Harborites will get their first glimpse of that visit on the History Channel at 9 p.m. Monday, Sept. 9, when their “picking” visit with local collector Terry Baltzell airs.

It will be one of two shows featuring Harbor collectors. The other, to be aired on a yet-to-be-determined date in October, will feature Norm Callaghan, who owns Gordon’s Service in Hoquiam, according to a publicist with A&E Networks in New York.

Baltzell, who serves as lead auctioneer at the Auction on 8th St. in Hoquiam most Friday nights, lives “up the Wishkah.” He said series hosts Frank Fritz and Mike Wolfe and their film crew spent more than 12 hours on his property and purchased more than $5,000 worth of collectibles from him. Callaghan told The Daily World that he sold about $22,000 worth of items.

“I’ve been collecting stuff ever since I was a kid,” he said. “You learn a lot from these guys.”

Baltzell said seeing the show produced from behind the scenes was “intense,” and he enjoyed his time with the “Pickers.”

“This is great PR for our community,” he said. “This will be a real positive for our our area and help put us on the map.”

Baltzell also noted that after the co-hosts finished at Callaghan’s auto repair shop, they spent about and hour and a half signing autographs and taking pictures with the dozens of local fans who had gathered across the street.
