Police investigating death of man found in river

There were no signs of trauma, police say

The Aberdeen Police Department is investigating the death of an 86-year-old Aberdeen man found in the Wishkah River on Tuesday morning.

Police responded to a call for a welfare check received at 10:08 a.m. on Tuesday, said Cmdr. Steve Timmons. Upon arriving, police searched the area for the 86-year-old man, who they had received the call about.

“They were there relatively quickly,” Timmons said. “One of the officers spotted something about 80 yards east from the Young Street Bridge.”

An officer used a drone to positively identify the body as the man they were searching for, Timmons said, as they were unable to get close.

“He was already deceased,” Timmons said. “We requested the (Grays Harbor County Sheriff’s Office) to bring their boat.”

The sheriff’s office was able to assist the Aberdeen police in retrieving the body. There are no signs of trauma, but police are investigating the circumstances of how the 86-year-old man came to be in the river, Timmons said.
