Police seek man for hit-and-run on cop car

The damage is very minor

The Aberdeen Police Department is searching for a man involved in striking a patrol vehicle with his truck on Sunday evening.

Police were responding to another call when the incident occurred, said Cmdr. Steve Timmons of the Aberdeen Police Department.

“Our officers responded to a parking cocmplaint on the 200 block of North E Street,” Timmons said in a phone interview. “A truck came by and hit one of our vehicles. They contacted the person, the person denied it. When they told him he wasn’t free to leave, he took off.”

Police located the vehicle about 10 minutes later, Timmons said.

“They found it up at Pioneer Boulevard. They found it unoccupied,” Timmons said. “They used a drone to try to locate the driver.”

The driver, a 37-year-old Aberdeen man, was identified by police before fleeing the scene, Timmons said. The damage is extremely minor but the man did clearly strike the car in sight of the police before denying it, Timmons said.

“It wasn’t significant damage, but one officer observed the vehicle being hit. The other heard it,” Timmons said. “It was pretty minor. Some scratches in the paint on the rear drivers side.”
