The Elma Fire Department and personnel from Grays Harbor Fire District 5 were dispatched to a house fire Wednesday morning and arrived to find an injured resident outside the home the 1000 block of West Martin Street in Elma.
The identity of the victim or the type or extent of the injuries were not available, but Fire District 5 spokesman Brian Baldwin did say that resident was taken to Summit Pacific Medical Center for “injuries sustained by the fire.”
Smoke and flames were visible coming from the single story home when the first Elma unit arrived, said Baldwin. The fire had already vented out of a bedroom window and the McCleary Fire Department was called to assist. Firefighters attacked the blaze from the outside and most of the fire was knocked down within an hour of the initial call, which came in at 8:52 a.m.
Capt. Josh Collette, incident commander from the City of Elma Fire Department said, “The fire was able to be knocked down and contained very quickly due to the great response from all of the agencies.”
District 5 Chief Dan Prater, who was also on scene, said “that the continued joint operations between the agencies helps with emergency scene efficiency and safety of all involved and today’s fire showed that.”
The agencies responded with six fire engines, one rescue, one medic unit and one command rig, along with 20 personnel in total. No fire personnel injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
