Robert Crumpacker
I am a lifelong resident of Grays Harbor and full-time resident of Ocean Shores since 1977. I am running for Position 7 to bring my knowledge and proven record of service to the City Council. I do not have all the answers but I can ask the right questions!
Do you favor the Point Brown Avenue redesign project moving forward, and if so, which of the alternatives do you favor and what suggestions do you have for funding?
We need to fill the three vacant Police Department positions. We need to determine a level of staffing in the Fire Department to assure adequate coverage. We need to define the parameters of a road maintenance program and fully fund and implement it. We WANT to do a sidewalk project (or downtown upgrade). Until these needs and others are resolved, I do not wish to spend time and money on this proposal.
The city faces a dilemma with funding set to expire for seven firefighters. Do you favor retaining these positions, why or why not, and if so, how would suggest they be paid for?
I believe we should have a staff that can have two full ambulance crews at all times. In my view, that would require three of the SAFER grant positions to remain. Our voted levy is a fixed amount. Our charge for service should be closely examined to ensure full and accurate billing. The Ambulance Utility rate may have to be raised by around $3 per month. And any cost-saving measures our new chief might bring forward should be enacted.
What three items of public interest and benefit would you propose as a council member and what three items would you like to see changed in the city of Ocean Shores?
A. Increase storm sewer rate by $2 per month to provide money for future fresh waterway projects. B. Decrease sanitary sewer rates by at least the $2 per month increase in storm sewer rates. C. Interface with the Coast Guard to bring helicopter service back to Westport at least during the summer season. Question 3 part 2 — A. I would like to see regular town hall style meetings sponsored by the City Council. B. I would like to improve our websites by contracting with a part-time web designer. C — I would like to see a well-developed facility maintenance program with adequate funding.
Would you continue the city’s contract with the Pinnacle Group to help manage and market the Ocean Shores Convention Center, and what suggestions do you have for the facility in the long term?
I believe Pinnacle has codified a reasonable action plan featuring a professional sales person working only for the Ocean Shores Convention Center. The City Council needs to fully implement these recommendations. Outside management is not economically feasible.
