Local authorities raided a house in the 600 block of Bel Aire Avenue in Aberdeen last week under the suspicion that it could contain numerous stolen firearms and other valuables in connection to recent burglaries in the area. While they only found one of the weapons, the search did turn up several bags of heroin and evidence of drug sales, $11,000 in cash and two vehicles, all of which were confiscated as evidence.
According to Grays Harbor Sheriff’s Office chief criminal deputy Steve Shumate, guns and other items were taken during burglaries in late December from residences in Montesano, Monte-Elma Road and near Central Park in Aberdeen. The Sheriff’s Office and Montesano Police Department had suspected this residence, along with others they are still looking into, of housing the illegal goods.
The search on Bel Aire was carried out at 9 a.m. by officers, deputies, and detectives from the Sheriff’s Office, the Grays Harbor County Drug Task Force, Aberdeen and Montesano Police Departments, and members of Aberdeen’s Crisis Response Unit.
A 28-year-old woman at the residence was briefly detained and then released without charges pending further investigation, but they did not find anyone they suspected of committing the burglaries.
Along with the Bel Aire Avenue residence, the Sheriff’s Office and Montesano Police have executed other search warrants related to the burglaries at residences in Camp Creek Road in Montesano, Solki Road in Central Park, and North Summit Road in McCleary. From those, several firearms and other stolen items have been recovered, and a number of suspects have been arrested in conjunction with those search warrants over the past two weeks.
