Seven people have applied for the vacant District 2 Port of Grays Harbor Commission seat, according to Port spokeswoman Kayla Dunlap.
The seat became open after the death of longtime Commissioner Jack Thompson, who died in early October, while on a trip to Chile on Port business.
The applicants are:
• Ed Brewster, former Grays Harbor College president.
• Robert M. Ford III, local architect who has been active in encouraging development in downtown Aberdeen.
• Thomas O. Quigg, real estate broker.
• John Shaw, executive director of the South Beach Historical Society. Shaw once owned a boat building company that rented space at the Port.
• Peter J. Schave, a longtime Aberdeen City Councilman.
• Kim Roberts, Westport Winery co-owner.
• Robert N. Parnell, Westport by the Sea condominium home owners association president.
Port District 2 covers the southwest corner of the county, including Aberdeen, Westport and Grayland.
Commissioners will hold public interviews at 5:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 26. Following the public interviews, the commission will adjourn into executive session.
The commission is expected to make a selection during a public meeting Tuesday, Nov. 27 at 3 p.m.
The appointment lasts until the next regular Port election in November of 2019, at which time anyone seeking to run for the position will have to stand for election.
The winner of the November 2019 election will serve out the unexpired term for the District 2 position, which will run through Dec. 31, 2023.
