A Grays Harbor Sheriff’s Office deputy investigating a car parked off the road Thursday morning resulted in a police chase and arrest near Hoquiam.
The incident began on the 100 block of Powell Road, said Undersheriff Kevin Schrader.
“One of our deputies was out patrolling. He saw a vehicle parked off the roadway on a spur road,” Schrader said in a phone interview. “The occupant refused to answer any questions or provide identification.”
Checking the registration of the vehicle, the deputy was able to positively identify the driver as the registered owner of the vehicle, and that the man had recently been issued warrants for attempted murder, first-degree assault and first-degree burglary from a 2023 incident, Schrader said. When the deputy attempted to arrest the man, 32-year-old Travis James Carlock, Spanaway, he attempted to flee instead.
“We were able to locate the vehicle a short distance away. We activated our lights and sirens,” Schrader said. “He actually didn’t drive very recklessly. We decided to end it as soon as we could.”
Deputies physically stopped and immobilized the vehicle by spinning it on state Route 109 outside Hoquiam, according to a GHSO social media post. Carlock was arrested after a brief struggle and transported to the county jail, Schrader said.
Washington State Patrol investigated the incident, according to the social media post.
