Sheriff’s office assists State Patrol in detaining suspect

The suspect fled the vehicle on foot during a traffic stop

The Grays Harbor Sheriff’s Office assisted the Washington State Patrol after a man fled from a traffic stop on foot.

Trooper Joshua Magerstaedt of the WSP was pulling over a red Dodge Ram without license plates near Central Park on Friday morning, just before 8 a.m., when the driver parked at a residence and fled the vehicle on foot, according to the incident report.

The sheriff’s office sent deputies, including a K9 unit, to assist in locating the driver, said Chief Criminal Deputy Jason Wecker in a phone interview.

“He pulled into a residence and the guy took off into the woods,” Wecker said. “Ultimately someone pointed at him and got him into custody.”

The suspect, Zachary Allen-Lee Book, was arrested for driving under the influence. Book was also wanted on a number of warrants, including ones issued by the McCleary Police Department, Grays Harbor Sheriff’s Office and the Department of Corrections.

Wecker noted the same officer and dog had assisted the Department of Fish and Wildlife on an arrest on Monday afternoon.
