Shumate swears in new Aberdeen Police officer

A former Montesano state wrestling champion has been sworn in as the Aberdeen Police Department’s newest officer.

Chief Steve Shumate swore in Austin Cain Monday at the Log Pavilion in Aberdeen. Commander Dale Green said Cain was a two time state wrestling champion and 2017 graduate of Montesano High School. Since graduating, Cain has attended classes at Grays Harbor Community College.

Cain is tentatively scheduled to attend the 17-week Washington State Criminal Just Training Commission’s Basic Law Enforcement Academy in April of this year.
