Standoff in Hoquiam with female stabbing suspect

Woman had just been released from 90 days jail sentence for stabbing someone else

Update: As of shortly after 8 Monday evening, authorities had the stabbing suspect in custody. The victim of Monday afternoon’s stabbing has died.

Law enforcement officials from across the region were involved in a standoff in Hoquiam on Monday evening with a woman suspected of stabbing a man multiple times near the intersection of 4th and M streets.

Nearby residents were evacuated from their homes or told to stay in place and streets around the 300 block of M Street were blocked off with emergency vehicles. Officers saw her inside the residence and believe she’s armed with at least a hunting knife and ax, said Hoquiam Police Chief Jeff Myers.

It’s unknown whether she has firearms or any other weapons.

Police breeched at least one entrance to the home and threw a telephone inside to the suspect to begin trying to convince her to come out peacefully.

Myers said someone driving through the area saw the stabbing and reported it at 3:09 p.m. on Monday. Myers was the first to arrive at the scene, where he found the male victim on the ground with stab wounds and the suspect having run inside the home.

The suspect was identified as a 45-year-old woman who lives in the dwelling where she was holed up, as of 7:30 p.m. Monday.

She had just been released from jail after completing a 90-day sentence for stabbing another man and has a history of mental illness, Myers said.
