Stevens Elementary in Aberdeen was under lockdown for a brief time Thursday afternoon while police investigated a report of a man with a gun in the area.
Officers received a report of a woman yelling that someone was trying to kill her, according to Lt. C.J. Chastain.
Officers were sent at 1:21 p.m. to the 300 block of East Perry Street. A caller advised that she had roommates downstairs, and that an unknown bald male was in the hallway with a firearm, according to a police press release.
Officers from Aberdeen, Hoquiam, Cosmopolis, and the Grays Harbor County Sheriff’s Office responded. The elementary school was called and placed on lockdown as a safety precaution. The Aberdeen Fire Department also responded.
Harbor 911 dispatchers continued to speak with the caller and after some time officers were able to bring her from the residence. After using a patrol car PA system, a second female resident exited the house and spoke with officers.
The officers entered the residence and verified nobody else was inside with a firearm. The caller told officers the male she had seen and a female he was with left while she was calling police.
The incident wrapped up at 2:33 p.m. when officers confirmed the safety of the residents and the neighboring area. Nobody was taken into custody. The school was then released from lockdown for parents to arrive and pick up their children.
