The cause of a rollover single car accident on Highway 12 at Baila Dip a mile east of Aberdeen Sunday evening is still under investigation, according to a report by Krista Hand with the Washington State Patrol.

The wreck occurred just after 7:30 p.m. A blue 2004 Chrysler PT Cruiser was heading eastbound toward Central Park when the driver, described as a 76-year old Aberdeen woman, crossed from the right into the left lane, striking the Jersey barrier. The impact caused the vehicle to roll, eventually coming to rest on the passenger side in the left hand lane.

Aberdeen Fire responded. A District 2 medic unit actually happened upon the scene as it was returning to the station, according to a statement issued by Aberdeen Fire Battalion Chief Troy Palmer. The crew found one of the car’s occupants was still trapped in the wreckage of the totaled PT Cruiser. District 2 and Aberdeen Fire personnel worked together to stabilize the vehicle and were able to cut the woman out in about 10 minutes. Both she and a passenger, a 30-year old Aberdeen man, were sent to Grays Harbor Community Hospital for precautionary measures. Eastbound lanes of the highway were blocked by the accident and rescue efforts for about an hour.

The cause of the accident is under investigation. Both occupants of the vehicle were wearing seatbelts, and drugs or alcohol are not believed to be involved.
