Kevin Swope has resigned his Ward 3 seat on the Hoquiam City Council to take a job with the Hoquiam Police Department as a police services officer.
The resignation was official Aug. 22 and announced at the Aug. 27 City Council meeting.
Police chief Jeff Myers said Swope had worked for many years at Stafford Creek Corrections Center as a sergeant until leaving law enforcement about a year ago. Myers said a number of jail officers have recently moved on to take patrol jobs, creating the need for an experienced corrections officer.
The city is now taking applications for 30 days to fill the council vacancy. Anyone living within Ward 3 can submit a letter of interest to the City of Hoquiam, attn. Council Secretary, 609 8th Street, Hoquiam, WA 98550. For more information, contact Tracy Wood at twood@cityofhoquiam.com or 360-538-3970.
