Take a look at the Class of 2020

They may not be the recollections they were expecting, but the graduating seniors of 2020 are ending their high school years with a unique collection of memories — graduation ceremonies unlike any before them, sports rivalries left undecided and a two-month-long snow day without any snow.

In today’s Daily World, we’ve included a special supplement, the Twin Harbors Class of 2020, to pay tribute to students who had the rare experience of ending their school years during a global pandemic.

“It’s been a little strange for everybody, but this group of seniors really had an unusual sendoff to their school years and we wanted to give them and their families something to remember it by,” said Mike Hrycko, Publisher of The Daily World. “And it’s worth pointing out that a lot of advertisers stepped up to support the project and the kids.”

The section includes the photos of about 800 students on the Twin Harbors from 16 different high schools.

That’s a lot of mugshots to manage and the job fell to Kat Bryant, the paper’s Lifestyle editor.

She had the help of principals, counselors and staff at every school to round up photos and text for the 48-page section.

“Pulling together 800-plus photos, as well as statements from the principals and top graduates, was a massive project,” Bryant said. “Many thanks to the school admins who went above and beyond to send us all the materials we requested so that we could pay proper tribute to the Class of 2020.”

There are a limited number of extra copies, free at The Daily World. To ensure there are enough for each family, we ask that each family take just one.

Like us, we think you’ll be struck by a recurring thought as you look through the pages and pages of faces: the promise of the young people moving into the next phases of their lives in our community. Take a look. They’re our future. Join us in wishing them a bright one.
