A LaPine, Ore. man was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle after he allegedly ran a stop sign at the intersection of Keys Road and Highway 12 four miles west of Elma Wednesday evening, resulting in a three-car collision.
According to a report from the Washington State Patrol, the accident occurred at 4:43 p.m., when the 93-year old LaPine man failed to stop at the stop sign as he was traveling northbound on Keys Road. A Ford Ranger pickup driven by a 51-year old Hoquiam man westbound on Highway 12 collided with the passenger side of the Chrysler. The impact sent the Chrysler into a 2006 Dodge Ram pickup driven by a 67-year old Grayland man, who was stopped for traffic at the time. The Chrysler wound up coming to a rest on the northwest side of the intersection of the highway and Keys Road.
The LaPine man was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center with unspecified injuries. The Hoquiam driver was also injured and transported by aid car to Summit Pacific Medical Center. The Grayland man was not injured and was able drive his Dodge pickup from the scene. The other two vehicles were a total loss, and one lane of westbound 12 was closed for about four hours.
According to the State Patrol statement, a possible charge for failure to yield is pending against the driver of the Chrysler, but the incident was still under investigation.
