Three vehicle crash on SR 107 sends two to the hospital Monday morning

Driver attempted to pass in a no passing zone, faces negligent driving charges

A crash on State Route 107 about three miles south of Montesano involving three vehicles sent two people to the hospital Monday morning, according to a report from the Washington State Patrol.

An 18-year-old South Bend man was driving a Chevrolet van southbound at 7:17 a.m. when he attempted to pass a Kenworth tractor trailer rig driven by a 43-year-old Elma man in a no passing zone near mile post 5, according to the Patrol. According to the report, the South Bend man pulled into the path of a Ford van, swerved to avoid a collision and wound up striking the Kenworth.

The 25-year-old Raymond woman driving the Ford van swerved to avoid the collision but was struck by the Chevrolet van after it lost contact with the Kenworth and wound up in the northbound ditch. The Chevrolet van rotated and eventually came to rest also in the northbound ditch. The driver of the Kenworth was able to bring his vehicle safely to a stop on the southbound shoulder.

A 49-year-old South Bend woman who was a passenger in the Chevrolet van was injured and taken by aid car to Grays Harbor Community Hospital. According to a report, a 35-year-old Raymond man who was a passenger in the Ford van was also injured and taken to the hospital. Two other passengers, including a 6-month-old child, were uninjured, as were all three drivers involved, according to the report.

The State Patrol is calling the accident a result of the driver of the Chevrolet van unsafely passing and he could face charges of negligent driving. The conditions of the injured are unknown.
