Bulldogs 72, Forks 21

FORKS — Montesano clinched its fourth successive undisputed Evergreen 1A League title win a victory over Forks on Tuesday.

The Bulldogs (7-0, 16-5) scored early and often against the Spartans. Monte jumped out to a 21-point lead in the first quarter and, despite a slump in the second quarter, led the distance in this contest.

“We came out with great intensity the first four minutes and we lost that for the rest of the half,” Montesano coach Julie Graves said. “In the third quarter, the kids played much harder for the rest of the game. It was a lackluster performance in the second quarter.”

Jordan Spradlin scored 23 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead the Bulldogs, while Josie Toyra added 16 points and three steals. Josie Talley scored 10 points and grabbed seven rebounds. Cheyann Bartlett had six assists, while Shayla Floch had five assists and Lexi Lovell three steals.

Montesano hosts Hoquiam on Friday.

Trailing 10-2 in the first half, Elma (6-2, 11-8) switched to a full-court press and went on a 25-2 run to take the lead and control the rest of the contest.

“We had a slow start and put the press on and rolled from there,” Elma coach Lisa Johnson said. “It was a great team effort. We had a lot of kids contributing all over the court.”

Quin Mikel finished with 17 points and nine rebounds to lead the Eagles, while Peyton Elliott added 13 points, five assists and five steals. Molly Johnston pitched in with 12 points, 11 rebounds and three blocks and Brooke Sutherby added 10 points and 11 rebounds.

CENTRALIA — Hot shooting by Centralia helped the Tigers roll past Aberdeen in an Evergreen 2A Conference game on Tuesday.

The Tigers came out firing early, led by three 3-pointers by freshman Carissa Kaut in the first quarter, to grab a 16-point lead after one quarter and stayed ahead the rest of the way. Aberdeen scored 12 in the second quarter to stay with Centralia, but the Tigers pulled away in the second half.

“(Centralia) came out shooting well and Kaut hit three threes in the first quarter,” Aberdeen head coach Jeff Niemi said. “We had a decent second quarter, but just couldn’t shoot well after that.”

The Bobcats (1-6, 6-11) were led by 10 points and five rebounds from Angel Jones. Reagan Glanz added four assists.

Niemi cited Jones, Katlyn Dawson, Emmy Walsh, Kathleen Slyter, Adrianna Roberts for strong play in the fourth quarter.

The loss officially eliminates the Bobcats from postseason play.
