Two buildings face demolition west of downtown Aberdeen

The city of Aberdeen is going to demolish two buildings west of downtown Aberdeen. Both have been deemed to be “a public nuisance,” by the city, according to demolition contracts with two different companies.

One of the contracts, to demolish 1401 W. 2nd St., is with K D & S Environmental, Inc.

“The purpose of this contract is to remove a public nuisance located on the following described real property,” the contract states.

The contractor — KD & S Environmental, Inc., — “shall commence the demolition of the building on the above described property no later than Aug. 26, 2024,” the documents state.

The contractor is to complete the demolition and “the removal of all debris by Sept. 18, 2024.”

KD & S beat out Advance Environmental Inc and 3 Kings Environmental Inc. Their bids are below:

• KD & S — $38,123

• Advance Environmental, Inc., — $38,832

• 3 Kings Environmental Inc., — $75,450

Second property

The second parcel to be destroyed — 457 Conger St., — will be done by Advanced Environmental.

“The contractor shall commence the demolition of the building on the above described property no later than (the) 11th day of September 2024,” the documents state. “The contractor shall complete the demolition and removal of all debris by Sept. 30, 2024.”

Advance Environmental, Inc., — $13,566 — beat out Rognlin’s, Inc., — $19,634 — for the winning bid to demolish the 457 Conger St., building.

According to Lisa Scott, the city’s community development director, the buildings are irreparable.

“The houses are collapsing and are not habitable,” Scott said.

The funds have already been authorized in this year’s budget, according to city documents.
