Two cars burn in highway crash

A pair of vehicles were destroyed by fire and a third damaged in a highway crash near Montesano on Sunday around noon.

No injuries were reported as a result of the crash, according to the incident report from the Washington State Patrol.

Just before noon on Sunday, a 59-year-old Everett woman, driving a Nissan SUV east on U.S. Highway 12, failed to slow for thickening traffic and struck the car ahead, a Kia minivan, which in turn was pushed into a third vehicle, a Subaru SUV.

The Nissan and Kia involved in the crash caught fire, while the Subaru was able to pull clear.

The vehicles were extinguished by the Montesano Fire Department, but traffic was blocked for some time.

The Everett woman was charged with 2nd-degree negligent driving, according to the report. The Kia and the Nissan were completely destroyed by fire.
