With little fanfare, Grays Harbor County Undersheriff Dave Pimentel retired Friday after 37 years of service to the county.
The quiet exit was his idea, said Chief Criminal Deputy Brad Johansson. Even a small barbecue for a few staff Friday grew too big for his liking; being the center of attention has never been his style, said Johansson.
“He is probably one of the most liked and respected law enforcement officials in the county,” said Johansson. “He is most known for being very caring and compassionate.”
Johansson relayed a story from an exit interview with a member of the prosecutor’s office. In it, it was said that Pimentel was the officer most likely to get a hug from a defendant as he was being sent off to jail.
Pimentel wore many hats during his time with the Sheriff’s Office, including Drug Task Force Sergeant, Detective Sergeant and Chief Criminal Deputy, wrapping up his service as Undersheriff Friday.
“He is a compassionate and caring individual and a friend to all,” the Sheriff’s Office posted on Facebook late Friday. “You will be truly missed. Congratulations on a job well done.”
