A water line break has put the YMCA of Grays Harbor aquatics area out of commission, just ahead of annual scheduled maintenance planned for Thursday. The lap pool is expected to reopen Tuesday, said YMCA Executive Director and CEO Franzine Potts.
“All the pool motors have been removed from the facility and are being repaired and dried out,” said Potts. “We are trying to contract as much of the repair of the damage that happened with the water line break to get it done as soon as possible.”
Rognlin’s Inc. contractors were at the facility Sunday to help remove the pool motors.
“Thankfully, Rognlin’s came in and helped the staff remove all the motors,” said Potts. “We would never have been able to do that with our staff alone.”
The lap pool motor was expected back Monday, and the lap pool should be open for scheduled programs Tuesday, said Potts. It will probably be Wednesday before the pool itself is likely to reopen, along with the steam room, sauna, spa, slide, recreation pool and water features.
“We’re putting in as many resources as we can to get the pool open in time for regularly scheduled days,” said Potts, before the annual maintenance will shut pool facilities down again Thursday, Aug. 30. The aquatics area is expected to reopen Tuesday, Sept. 4.
Shower, restroom and water service were restored at around 12:30 p.m. Sunday, said Potts.
