WESTPORT — A 23-5 third quarter for Taholah allowed it to put distance between it and host Ocosta in this non-league contest on Wednesday night.
The Chitwhins (3-0), who lost to Ocosta by 36 points last season, led 53-38 at halftime. Dylan James and Terrance Jones each scored 18 points to lead all scorers for Taholah.
Zach Cain added a double-double — 14 points, 12 rebounds — for the Chitwhins.
“At halftime, I told them to go out and play like we were 10 points behind,” Taholah head coach Mike Rose said. “We pressured and got turnovers. We just kept being aggressive.”

TUMWATER — Winning its first games of its inaugural season, Aberdeen came within 37 pins of scoring an overall dual meet victory over Tumwater at Tumwater Lanes on Wednesday.
Aberdeen won the first game by three pins, 552-549, when Sydni Tingwall scored a spare and five pins in the 10th frame. Tumwater rolled past Aberdeen’s shuffled lineup in the second game, but the Bobcats scored a split in the Baker games.
All told, the T-Birds picked up the overall win with a 1,410-1,373 score in total pins.
“If I didn’t make my shifts (in the second game), we would have tied in total pins at 1,410,” AHS head coach David Bruncke said. “It was close and very exciting. We were ahead in the fifth frame in the second Baker game, but they came on strong after that. It was good for the girls to see that they do have a chance.”

WESTPORT — Late missed free throws allowed Ocosta to hold off Taholah in this non-league encounter on Wednesday evening.
The Wildcats held a 53-50 lead late when the Chitwhins were unable to hit the front end of bonus free throws with six seconds left.
“We got an early jump on them,” Ocosta head coach Jason Barnum said. “Their outside shooting kept them in the game. It was just outstanding shooting by them.”
“We were just timid at first in the first half,” Taholah assistant coach Dramikha Jackson said. “Once we just started figuring out that we needed to play, the girls relaxed and made a comeback.”
Kaylee Barnum led Ocosta (4-3) with 22 points. Denise Dolan led all scorers with 23 points for Taholah.
