A residence in Westport suffered about $70,000 in damage after an early morning fire Friday, according to South Beach Regional Fire Authority Battalion Chief Daryl Brown.
Dispatchers got a call around 4:45 a.m. from an individual at a camp site adjacent to the structure, saying he could see flames coming from the roof, said Brown. Arriving fire crews found the residence in the 1400 block of East Lila Street with flames coming from the roof and the back of the building. Crews were able to extinguish the fire within 15 minutes of arrival, said Brown.
Some minor damage was reported to an adjacent building estimated at $5,000.
South Beach fire crews remained on scene for several hours mopping up and overhauling hot spots, said Brown. The South Beach Regional Fire Authority responded with eight firefighting personnel. There were no reported injuries and crews were assisted by the Westport Police Department and Grays Harbor PUD. The fire is under investigation.
