Photographer Marcy Merrill holds what is believed to be a pyrosome that she found near Washaway Beach on Thursday morning. Merrill said there were many on the beach and they had the consistency of gummy bear candy. Merrill posted photos on her Facebook page and asked for help identifying it. The consensus was that it was a pyrosome, which actually seems to be a colony of smaller animals, known as zooids.
