Barbara Alice Beals, age 82, a longtime Hoquiam resident, died on Tuesday, March 13, 2018, at Grays Harbor Community Hospital. She was born on Jan. 19, 1936, in Aberdeen, Washington to Joseph Bundy and Gladys (Englund) Mischler.
Barbara graduated from Hoquiam High School in 1953. She began working for St. Joseph Hospital in Aberdeen before working as an operator for Pacific Northwest Bell and as a bookkeeper at the National Bank of Commerce during the 1950s. She met and married Donald Edward Beals in 1959, and they started their family. He preceded her in death in 1995. In 1973, she started work as an aide at Lincoln Elementary School, then as the school secretary, retiring in 1999.
She enjoyed camping, reading, movies and loved her dogs.
Surviving relatives include two daughters, Nikki Jones (Philip) and Christy Carey, both of Hoquiam; two grandchildren, Amanda Jones and Ian Carey, both of Hoquiam; a niece Kimberley Streeter (Doug) and their children, Cole and Brooke, of Montesano and a nephew Bradley Lyons of Westport. Her sister, Carol Brown died previously.
A private urn committal will be at Hoquiam’s Sunset Memorial Park.
