Carol Gottwig-Charles, 86, a resident of Aberdeen, passed away on Aug. 24, 2018. Carol was born April 3, 1932, to Irvin and Helen Gottwig of Hoquiam, Wash. Carol grew up in Hoquiam and Aberdeen, graduating from Hoquiam High School in 1950.
Carol worked for the City of Aberdeen for the water department, from where she eventually retired. She loved to travel, often times with her grandchildren and daughters visiting many different places including Canada, Mexico, Korea, and many different states within the U.S. Carol also loved to camp and go on family adventures. Carol always enjoyed sewing, crocheting, and gardening. Carol also really enjoyed music and reading. Family was important to her, making sure that holidays were spent together, always at her home where everyone could gather. Carol was the heart of her family that kept everyone together.
Carol was an avid member of her church for many years at the Evangelical Covenant Church in Aberdeen. She was a woman of faith and believed in God. It was very important to her that her granddaughters were also a part of the church as young children.
Carol is survived by her brother Richard Gottwig, of Aberdeen; daughter, Diana Rae-Arthur, of Aberdeen; daughter, Valerie Franks, of Aberdeen; grandson Wade Rae-Arthur, of Victoria, B.C.; granddaughter Letycia Paniagua, of Aberdeen; granddaughter Lilia Paniagua, of Aberdeen; granddaughter Alysa Paniagua, of Aberdeen; great-grandson Riley VanHorlick of Williams Lake, B.C.; great-granddaughter Gracie Rae-Arthur, of Victoria, B.C.; great-grandson Cortez Ayala-Paniagua, of Aberdeen; great-granddaughter Serenity Chhoum, of Aberdeen; great-grandson Aarion Chhoum, of Aberdeen. Carol is preceded in death by her grandson, Kristopher Rae-Arthur.
Carol will be remembered by her strong will to fight.
A celebration of life will be held at Calvary Chapel at 108 S. K. St. in Aberdeen at 1 p.m. on Sept. 8, 2018.
