Carol Jean Shaffer Butcher, age 86, of Tifton, Georgia, went to be with our Lord and Savior on Dec. 10, 2024.
Carol was born on June 12, 1938, in San Diego, California to Francis and Roy Shaffer. At a young age she moved to Kellerton, Iowa where she met her loving husband of 58 years, David “Gene” Butcher.
Traveling to find their permanent home Carol and Gene moved to St. Joseph, Missouri, until settling down in Hoquiam, Washington for over 50 years. Her last move was to Tifton, Georgia to be close to her daughter and grandchildren.
While in Hoquiam Carol and Gene opened a business together, Carol handling the book work while her husband worked the metal yard. Starting as young newlyweds and from scratch they built their business into one of the largest recycling businesses in the Pacific Northwest.
One of Carol’s passions was to research historic areas and then to travel to the country. She loved to relay stories from the countless countries she traveled to and always brought back a prominent piece of the history with her. Her other hobbies included listening to country music and singing. For a short period she sang in a local country and western band.
Her priorities were always her family, including her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Carol is survived by three daughters, Patricia Burns, Carol Earley and Sherri Savelli (Brent), her grandchildren, Diane Severson (Jason), Kelly Kramer (Mitch), Lisa Middleton (James), Nikese Swift, David Butcher (Noelani), Patrick Earley (Kristi) Christopher Weber, Blair Moore (Jason), Carmen Savelli-Herrmann (Nicholas), Laurel Savelli (Jay) and Mia Savelli, her great-grandchildren, Sadie Severson, Colby Severson, Mikayla Weber, Lilian Weber, Karlo Weber, Wade Earley, Cole Earley and Jax Moore.
