On Thursday, Dec. 1, 2016 Charles David Whitney passed away at his home in Montesano surrounded by his family. He was 71. Charles was born April 18, 1945 in Aberdeen, Wash. to Matthew and Goldie (Vittetoe) Whitney.
Charles was raised in Montesano and graduated from Montesano High School. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War.
On Dec. 12, 1970 Charles married the love of his life Gladys Hensley in Montesano. She survives him at the family home.
Charles worked for 32 years at Marys River Lumber; he retired in 2011.
Charles attended Montesano Calvary Chapel and Montesano Church of God Churches. He enjoyed hunting, gardening, gold dredging, mushroom picking, bottle hunting and doing word search puzzles.
In addition to his loving wife Gladys, he is also survived by his son Gerry (Melanie) Whitney and daughter Shelley (James) Crea; brother Robert (Elba) Whitney and sister Patricia Masiello; seven grandchildren and foster siblings Byrla Mueller, Roscoe Crass, Orville Crass, Charlie Crass and Donna Smith.
He was preceded in death by his parents Matthew and Goldie; sister Merle June Clark and brother Perry Whitney and foster parents Willard and Emma Crass.
Visitation will be held from 1 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 8 in the chapel at Harrison Family Mortuary located at 311 W. Market St. in Aberdeen. A funeral service will take place at 1 p.m. on Friday at the Montesano Calvary Chapel followed by a graveside service with military honors at Wynooche Cemetery in Montesano; with a reception at the Montesano Calvary Chapel Center, 303 W. Pioneer.
Memorial donations in Charles memory are suggested to the Auntas Dream Kids Relay For Life Team or Montesano Calvary Chapel.
