Cleveland “Porky” Jackson born Jan. 12, 1948, passed away on Dec. 20, 2016, at the age of 68.
Cleveland was preceded in death by his father Raymond Eugene Jackson of the Quinault Nation, his mother Leona Irene Settler of the Yakama Nation, his brother Roger, and his sister Lisa.
He is survived by his siblings Janet, Robert, Tammy, and Michael; his children Jarrod, Jeremiah, Shalome, and Caleb, six granddaughters, and three grandsons.
He graduated from Elma High School, Elma, Wash. and attended Warner Pacific College in Portland, Ore. During his life he worked for the Portland Public School District, as well as in the construction industry. He was a volunteer fireman for the Alsea, Ore. Fire Department, and contributed his time to the Vancouver, Wash., Humane Society.
An enrolled member of the Quinault Indian Nation, he was an avid outdoorsman and firearm enthusiast who also loved cats, cats, cats, and pizza.
Cleveland had a charismatic and charming personality, as well as a generous soul; a colorful character that will be truly missed.
His family has chosen to hold two services due to weather conditions, as well as to accommodate family and friends on both sides of the mountains.
The first service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2017, at the Merritt Funeral Home in Wapato, Wash., with a meal immediately following at the Toppenish Longhouse located on Robbins Road in Toppenish.
The second service will be held at the Taholah Community Center Friday, Jan. 6, at 11 a.m., meal following at noon.
