Long-time Montesano resident D. Hugh Kirkham played too hard and passed away on July 19, 2022. He was born to Donald Leroy and Marjorie May Kirkham in good ole Aberdeen, Washington on May 10, 1959. He was raised in Montesano and graduated from the old high school (you know, the good one with the real bricks), class of 1978.
Hugh worked for Thriftway for 20 years, then onto Cascade Development, Martin Contracting, and then from 2008 until 2018, Hugh worked for Vaughan Chopper Pumps. He was a member of the Montesano Moose #1210, the VFW #2455, and his favorites: Charlies Sportsbar and Gepetto’s. If you needed to find Hugh, he was probably at one of those places.
Hugh loved cars, drag racing and his 2011 bright orange Dodge Challenger “Hotwheels.” His friends were his family, and he was always willing to help them out whenever he could.
Memorials can be made in Hugh’s name to the Montesano Fire Department or Montesano Volunteer Fire Department (whichever floats your boat).
He will be buried in his coffee can at Wynooche Cemetery, next to his father and grandfather.
Worked hard. Played hard. Died.
