Daniel Roy “Diesel Dan” Sjolsvold, 60, Aberdeen resident and former gravel truck driver for Schermer Construction, died Sunday, June 11, 2017, at his home in Aberdeen, Wash.
Dan was born on March 2, 1957, in Littlefork, Minn., to Peter Alvin and Jean Arlysse (Eide) Sjolsvold. He grew up in International Falls, Minn., and graduated from International Falls High School. He then went to Grand Forks for college. He joined the U.S. Army in 1978 and was Honorably Discharged in 1981. In 1985 he moved to Aberdeen.
He worked for Schermer Construction driving a gravel truck constructing logging roads in the area for 23 years. Dan was also known around the community as ‘Diesel Dan’ or ‘Big 10’.
On March 26, 1992, Daniel married Sally Barbara Moe in Reno, Nev. She resides at the family home.
Daniel loved fishing and went to Alaska a couple of years ago where he caught a huge King Salmon. He loved spending time with his kids and grandkids.
Daniel is survived by his wife of 25 years, Sally Sjolsvold of Aberdeen; five sons: Pete (Rochelle) Sjolsvold of International Falls, Minn., George Sjolsvold of Bemidji, Minn., Jeff McLaughlin of Spokane, Wash., Timothy McLaughlin and Eric Paniagua both of Aberdeen; a daughter, Ayana Mohamad of Aberdeen; sisters Thelma Gardiner of Hoquiam and Lourie Udobich of Aberdeen; eight grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
There will be a celebration potluck on Saturday, July 8, at 1 p.m. at the Hoquiam VFW.
Cremation arrangements are entrusted to Twibell’s Fern Hill Funeral Home in Aberdeen, Wash.
