David Ossian “Dave” Anderson, 74, longtime Hoquiam resident and former Engineer for Grays Harbor County Public Works Engineering Dept., died Monday, July 22, 2024, at his home in Hoquiam, Washington.
David was born on April 6, 1950, in Bellingham, Washington to Robert Ossian and Georgina Alma (Isbister) Anderson. He was in the first graduating class at Sehome High School in 1968 and then went to Skagit Valley Jr. College. He graduated from Everett Community College with an Associate of Engineering.
On March 3, 1973, Dave married his high school sweetheart Elaine Louise Atterbury at St. James Presbyterian Church in Bellingham, Washington. Elaine resides at the family home in Hoquiam.
In June of 1973, Dave took a job for the City of Hoquiam, and they moved to Hoquiam. Two years later Dave took a job at Grays Harbor County Works Engineering Dept. He retired in 2009.
Dave worked with the Boy Scouts when his kids were younger. He was a member of the Aberdeen First Presbyterian Church where he played in the bell choir, which he has done since he was age 12. He was a 6-time Past Master of the Hoquiam Masonic Lodge # 64 F&AM and the lodge secretary for many years. He was also a member of the Grays Harbor Genealogical Society, Past President and helped maintain the Genealogical Library until it burned down. Dave was a member of the Hoquiam Push Rods and loved to work on old cars. He also enjoyed making puzzles and toys in his spare time.
Dave is survived by his wife of 51 years, Elaine Anderson of Hoquiam; two sons: Erik (Dawn) Anderson of Olympia and Tyson (Maria) Anderson of Aberdeen; a half-brother, Bill Anderson of Victoria, BC; a sister, Kris (Glen) Folsom of Bremerton, Washington; a step-sister, Maryanne Hyder; a half-sister, Lori Starkweather of Seattle, Washington; three grandchildren: Nattalie Lohnes-Anderson, Parker Anderson and Landon Anderson; and one great-granddaughter, Lillian Atsatt. Dave was preceded in death by his mother, Georgina Anderson and his father Robert and wife Marie (Fedyk) Anderson, a sister, Barbara Yothers and a half-brother, Ed Anderson.
There will be a celebration of life for Dave on Thursday, Aug. 22, 2024, at 1 p.m. at Fern Hill Funeral Home’s Chapel with Masonic Rites. A reception will follow in the Dorothy Mann Reception Hall at Fern Hill Funeral Home.
