Deanne Marie Pascoe passed away on March 20, 2024, after a short illness. She was 66 years old.
Deanne was born to Sally Jo (Gauvin) and Dennis Pascoe December 29, 1957 in Aberdeen Washington. She attended Our Lady of Good Help Catholic school through the 7th grade then completed her 8th grade Catholic education at St. Mary’s Catholic School in Aberdeen graduating in 1972. Her one year attending St. Mary’s School was full of memorable moments and lasting friendships throughout her life.
She attended Hoquiam High School graduating in 1976 where she held the school javelin record for many years. Deanne attended Grays Harbor Community College for two years graduating in 1978 with an Associate of Arts degree in Business followed by one year at Washington State University studying accounting and finance where Deanne became a lifetime Cougar fan.
After returning to Hoquiam, Deanne worked at Grays Harbor Paper and Pulp Mill for a total of 16 years working in various departments, primarily in the finishing room. She became the first female production shift supervisor in mill history and the youngest to do so. After the mill shut down in 1992, Deanne went back to GHCC for one year to update her prerequisites while driving the handicap bus for Grays Harbor Transit.
From 1994 to 1996 Deanne moved to the Renton area to attend Bellevue Community College. She graduated with an Associate of Science degree in Radiologic Technologies. At that time, she was the recipient of the “1996 Outstanding Student of Washington State” which is an award presented by the Washington Society of Radiologic Technologists to one graduating student from the six recognized Radiological Technology programs in the state of Washington.
After earning her RRT certificate she worked in various hospitals in the Seattle area including VA Medical Center where she worked with some of the very best radiologist in the state.
Deanne soon moved into private practice working for Seattle Radiologists, APC for 19 years as lead computed tomography technologist. SeaRad was bought out by Radia Inc in 2019 where she continued her career retiring in 2022 as lead of the department after devoting 22 years there. She was blessed to have begun her career and finish out her career working alongside Dr. Kristin Manning and Dr. Kathy Ahl, whom she highly regarded as exceptional women. Deanne was known for her quick wit and her kind, compassionate spirit extending dignity to all her patients.
After retirement Deanne returned to the Harbor to spend time with her mother Sally Jo in her final years providing exceptional care and adventures while “driving miss Sally.” Sally Jo passed away just four months ago.
Deanne’s other interests include stained glass art, reading murder mystery books, Sudoku, Dominos, Scrabble, playing cards and participating daily in a highly competitive Wordle game with two former co-workers. She especially found peace and solace at the Cannery Row on the bay in Hoquiam watching the rhythm of the waves and hearing the water lap the shoreline.
Deanne is survived by her sisters Kathryn (Dale) Speakes of Edgewood, Sandy (Bill) Tometich of Aberdeen and half-sister Julie Burgett of Idaho. She was affectionally known as “AFH” to nieces Abby Jo Tometich (Mike Ruit) Brown, Hannah Tometich (Ryan) Reese, Claudia Speakes, and nephew Caleb Speakes. She is also survived by half nieces, Corrine Burgett (Mark) Van Heel, Kayla Burgett (Ozzie) Silva; grandnieces Cecille Van Heel, Nola Silva, Vivian and Noelle Reese and grandnephew Coy Van Heel. She leaves behind numerous friends who filled her life with sunshine and joy.
Deanne specifically wished to lovingly mention the three Appleton cousins from Seattle — these blackjack playing minors, clam digging shenanigans, holiday visiting bests friends from early childhood to adulthood in which all three are remembered with great affection.
She is preceded in death by her loving parents Dennis and Sally Jo Pascoe, Grandparents Vesta Pascoe, Wayne Pascoe, Albert and Marie Gauvin and her Aunt Donna Appleton and Uncle Albert Gauvin Jr.
Deanne’s sisters Kathryn and Sandy will remember Deanne as an amazing loving supportive big sister who was the MacGyver of all things broken, mayhem manager of Karr Avenue, elite planner of our Trick or Treat routes, a patient teacher in the art of bike and motorcycle riding, sneaking oil truck fender rides around Hoquiam, and an impatient algebra tutor.
Although her illness was quick to take her from us, Deanne’s final four weeks of her life were filled with numerous messages from family, friends and co-workers who let her know how profound her impact was on their life. This touched Deanne deeply as her genuine love, loyalty and care showed to everyone she met endeared her to all.
We would like to thank the Hoquiam Fire Department for the super quick response which saved her life, Life Flight Critical Care Transport, St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Tacoma for exceptional care and attention. Also, a very special thank you to the Pacific Care and Rehab staff for her final days residing in their care. Your kindness and dignity in her care was a comfort to our family as well as our dear sister who was empowered to make her own medical decisions to the very end.
She has requested donations in her memory to St. Mary’s Catholic School “Attention Teachers Fund,” 518 North H St., Aberdeen.
